Studio 80 + Sculpture Grounds supports the practice of green living and responsible design.

Unlike most studio/barn type buildings, Studio 80 has taken the following measures:

1. All windows are insulated and have low-e glass.

2. Floor & Heating system consists of a 6" concrete radiant heat slab.

3. Walls and roofs are all insulated. Roof has factor of R-38. This is the maximum amount capable with 12 inch rafters.

4. Disposal of water wastes from stone carving and similar functions go into their own custom designed separation system and the water goes into a separate dry well and is not allowed into water table or to leach into the Lieutenant River.

5. The studio utilizes the most efficient fluorescent lighting system available for construction in 2004.

6. Heating system is serviced and cleaned yearly to insure highest performance possible.

7. The studio uses an internal fume collection system that collects the maximum of dust from grinding, welding and polishing. This protects assistants and the environment from effects of operations.

8. The building, while built prior to new hurricane codes in September 2004, meets or exceeds the requirements for anchoring the structure to the foundation, use of steel reinforcements in wood columns, corner intersections and attachment of roof to the main structure.
